I have a confession to make.

I’m a New York fan. Yup. This Florida girl is rooting for NY football team these days. To be honest, I never really cared a whole lot about football until I started dating Andy. Early in our relationship we drove to Jacksonville to watch his favorite New York professional football team play in Florida, and I was hooked – on both the team and the guy. The rest is history and today I’m sharing one of our favorite game time snacks with you. I think you’re going to love this sweet and spicy grilled wings recipe!

Why Grilled Chicken Wings?

Grilling is my preferred method of cooking for most meats, including wings. It’s grilling season year round in Florida, and the mess is easier to clean up when you grill outdoors. Cleaning up grease splatter or scrubbing a broiling pan isn’t exactly how I want to spend my time before or after a game. Plus, Andy usually does the grilling now so that’s less work for me! In fact, this method of boiling the wings before putting them on the grill is all his idea. He does this with ribs too and says it’s an Irish thing. It seemed really strange to me at first, but after tasting the end result I’m a huge fan. Boiling the meat first ensures that it cooks through, and you don’t have to worry about it getting overly crispy on the grill. With this method you’ll get wings that are perfectly crunchy and juicy every time.

Sweet and Spicy Grilled Wings

This wings marinade recipe is enough for 2 dozen wings, but you can easily double or triple the recipe. I usually purchase fresh wings from my grocer which come in 2 dozen packages, but for larger crowds I buy frozen packages of 4 dozen wings and thaw before cooking. This recipe is moderately hot. If you prefer your wings more mild or hot, you can adjust the amount of red pepper or hot sauce to your liking.
