Thanksgiving Traditions

Thanksgiving is a holiday that’s very deep rooted in traditions, from giving thanks to the feast. One Thanksgiving tradition that a friend of mine started with her family is a thankful tree which is similar to the grateful turkey box we had last year. I just love taking time to hear what each person is thankful for. When I was a kid it was always such a big deal to pull on the wishbone in hopes of gaining some good luck, and as far back as I can remember we’ve watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on television. I’ve always dreamed of seeing it in person one day.

Many generous folks use Thanksgiving as an opportunity to help the less fortunate. Some people volunteer to serve food at homeless shelters on Thanksgiving Day and others donate to shelters or participate in canned food drives.

Being a family of foodies, the big feast is of particular importance. Like most families, we have our favorites which are prepared year after year like the mashed potatoes and cornbread dressing. Something pumpkin for dessert is a given, although in recent years I have deviated from the traditional pumpkin pie for a pumpkin cheesecake instead. This year Mom’s Citrus and Herb Turkey is sure to be the star of the show. While we’ll always have our traditional favorites, I like to prepare something different every year just to mix things up a bit.

This year technology is playing a greater role in my Thanksgiving preparation, thanks to some really great recipe and menu planning apps. The Bing Food & Drink app has quickly become a favorite of mine. This app makes it easy to explore recipes, choose wine and cocktails, and learn tips from celebrity chefs to make your next meal a taste tempting success. There are big beautiful photos, easy to follow instructions and helpful tools such as a meal planner and shopping list. Enter notes or upload your own recipes and with a single tap you can share your favorites with friends. The Bing Food & Drink app really does have everything you will need to plan a fabulous Thanksgiving feast.

I’m a total sucker when it comes to printables, and have been scouring the web looking for things like printable place cards and coloring pages.

This year finding recipes and printables couldn’t be any easier thanks to my Intel AIO PC all-in-one computer. Learn more about the many exciting things you can do with your AIO PC.

  • We don’t really have many traditions but I would like to make some while my son is still little, so we can carry them out throughout the coming years! I am also printable obsessed!

  • our biggest traditions include waking up and looking at ALL black friday circulars, regardless of if we shop, then going to my sisters to watch the big road race together (its a big event) and then watching a christmas story at night.

is there nothing to NOT love about bing?

also i LOVE that computer. the whole concept of an AIO computer still blows my mind!

  • Yum that Turkey looks mighty tasty! AND I could use that tech for printables too :-)! We normally spend it with my husbands side but this year I am making it and celebrating with my side too!

  • I spend more time in shows, technology, music, and miss the days of cooking. But, the app you mention.. that gives hope that I can squeeze in the cooking I love 😉

  • I love when the family gathers around the table that I haven’t seen in awhile. My favorite holiday tradition when I was a little girl was taking the olives off the table and putting it on my fingers for a quick get away so my mom wouldn’t see me. SHe always did. Now my boys do this to me with the olives. 🙂

  • We are very nontraditional. I think the only tradition we keep is being around the people that we love. However, Grandma Laura’s mac and cheese is quickly becoming a Thanksgiving tradition.
