I always have a difficult time selecting a bottle of wine. Do I want red or white? What’s the difference between a Pinot Grigio or Pinot Noir? It’s nice when someone who really knows about wine can make a suggestion for me. That’s one of the reasons I am so excited to share my Wines by Wives review for the new celebrity wine club.
About Wines by Wives
Wines by Wives is a celebrity wine club dreamed up by Tamra Barney and Vicki Gunvalson of “Real Housewives of Orange County”, along with businessman and internet entrepreneur Christopher Gravagna. A subscription fee of $34.90 (plus $13.95 shipping in Continental U.S.) gives members two bottles of wine from their chosen celebrity’s wine club; either two white, two red or one of each. Membership also allows access to a ‘Members Only’ website featuring exclusive pictures, videos, blogs, gossip, and much more. Each month, the celebrities will sample, select and recommend their preference for both a red and white wine.
Wines by Wives will be bringing on new celebrities regularly to select their favorite wines, giving members the chance to order wine recommended by their favorite celebrities. The online wine store carries not only the monthly wine picks, but also premium wines selected by Tamra and Vicki.
One of my favorite features of the Wines by Wives club is their commitment to give back to those in need. Each celebrity will be donating a portion of a member’s initial order to their favorite charity. Currently, Tamra has chosen a Breast Cancer charity and Vicki has selected a Battered Women’s shelter as their recipient organizations.
Wines by Wines Review
Watching the Real Housewives of Orange County on Tuesday night, while enjoying a glass of wine, is on of my favorite guilty pleasures! It’s pretty neat that I can now watch while drinking a glass of wine that has been personally sampled and recommended by on of the celebrity housewives.
For my review, I receive two of Tamra’s picks: Gabriella 2009 Chianti and Gabriella 2010 Pino Grigio. I have always been a huge fan of Chianti wine and am not very familiar with Pinot Grigio, so these selections were perfect for me. Gabriella is a label that I haven’t tried, so I was excited to receive these. It’s great getting a chance to try something new!
2009 Gabriella Chianti
This beautiful wine has the very deep red, almost purple, color that you would expect in a Chianti. The first thing you notice is the fruit, balanced by a bit of spice. It’s a good dry wine with a bold flavor. Even with it’s boldness, this Chianti is velvety smooth. Definitely one of the best Chianti’s I’ve had, I imagine this perfectly paired with my Sunday pot roast.
2012 Gabriella Pinot Grigio
When it comes to white wine I typically go with Chardonnay, so I was glad to try this Pinot Grigio as something outside of my comfort zone. Tamra did an excellent job with this selection for the Wine by Wives club. It has a slight bitter taste that is nicely balanced by the flavor of the grapes. It’s a very fragrant wine, well balanced, and full of flavor. One note about this wine is that it is definitely best when served very cold. I’m glad I got to know Pinot Grigio a little better. It would be delightful with fish and I look forward to pairing it with this Summer’s fresh catch!

I’m with you, a glass of wine and a good TV show is the ultimate pleasure! I’m not even a Housewives fan, and even I want to join this club. Here in Atlanta, there are Housewife “spottings” everywhere and I’m completely clueless because I have no idea who they are! Maybe now I can chat them up about their recommendations on wine… 🙂
It is really a nice and helpful piece of information. I am happy that you shared this useful info with us. Please keep us informed like this. Thanks for sharing.
I don’t drink wine very often but think this sounds like a great idea. I’m a fan of Tamra and Vicki on the show so I can see the appeal of this company.
