Homework is a necessary evil that every student must experience if they want to develop a strong base on what they learn in school. However, with so many subjects, it often becomes a nightmare for students because they don’t know where to start and when to end. That’s where you come in. As a parent, it is your responsibility to support, guide, and monitor your child while he/she is doing assignments. Otherwise, your child may feel lost in the ocean of homework he/she brings home.

Here are homework mistakes to avoid.

Homework mistakes to avoid

Parents often try to become too helpful to their kids when it comes to completing homework. This can bring good grades, but your child may get used to your help. So, here are a few mistakes that you shouldn’t make while helping your child with homework:

1)    Don’t do too much

Your job is to monitor and guide your child, not act as a substitute for their hand and brain. It is their homework, and they should do most of it alone. You can only help them when they get stuck or can’t understand a question. Your role should be as less as possible when it comes to doing the homework on their behalf. Maybe you can solve a math problem and ask your child to do the rest of them following the process you showed.

2)    Fix a schedule

Many parents tend to be lenient with their kids while doing homework. They listen to their excuses about not feeling well, having sports classes, and tons of other things. Don’t fall for these excuses. Make sure you are strict with their homework timing. If you enroll them in an online homework helper site, it will help to maintain a regular schedule. Assignment Expert, for example, is an online homework help platform that you can use anytime, but you should make sure that your child sticks to a specific schedule for the entire week.

3)    Don’t support their lack of focus

Kids are cunning. They would do anything to stay away from homework. Sometimes they would leave their homework for a glass of water, go to the toilet, or even take a snack break. As a parent, you shouldn’t try to support their lack of focus just because they are 6 or 7 years old. This will become a habit in the long run.

Instead, you should tell them that if they study for at least 30 minutes straight, they can take a break for 10 minutes. At the end of the day, they can even watch their favorite show on TV if they finish their designated homework. Kids tend to take your support positively. They will repeat the same excuses whenever they feel distracted. So, don’t make the same mistake again and again.

Homework can be a menace for many students. However, it is one of the best ways to test your child’s learning capabilities. So, if you supported their excuses for not doing homework until now, don’t make that mistake again. Let your child learn at their own pace. Be their guide and mentor and not their helping hand when it comes to finishing homework.

These sheet pan buffalo chicken nachos are cheesy and delicious, and made even better with a generous drizzle of ranch dressing. I live for the weekends and family night and this recipe for buffalo ranch chicken nachos is ideal for a laid-back family movie night or game night. Make these nachos for game day too!

I'm a huge Gilmore Girls fan. In a Season One episode, Sookie made rocky road cookies for Rory to give to her boyfriend Dean and he loved them. I've made my own version of Sookie's Rocky Road Cookies. Much like rocky road ice cream, these cookies are chocolaty, nutty, marshmallow-ey, and oh-so decadent. They're also super simple to make. Basically, these Gilmore Girls-inspired Rocky Road Cookies are sweet and gooey and crunchy - everything you want in a cookie recipe. I know you're going to love them!
