It takes a little time to adjust to an after school routine once the kids go back to school. Squeezing in a snack, homework, reading, extra-curricular activities, a healthy dinner, bath time, and some snuggles all before bedtime can be challenging. I’m exhausted after just typing all of that. Multi-tasking is an essential skill of parenting, especially during the school year. Meal planning and sticking to a routine have helped me a lot. Another thing I’ve found to be very helpful after school is the Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Edition Tablet. The Amazon Fire Kids Tablet is loaded with educational books, videos, apps and games available on Amazon FreeTime Unlimited. It also has excellent Parental Controls that can provide peace of mind for parents like me and you.
How We Use the Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Edition Tablet After School
Relaxing and resting. There are 2 things I can be sure of when T gets home from school. She will be starving and wore out. In my perfect world we would get homework out of the way immediately, but that isn’t very realistic. T needs some time to rest first.
We start off the afternoon with healthy snack then T gets about 20 minutes on her Amazon Fire Kids Tablet to listen to music or play games. She loves putting on her headset and listening to KIDZ BOP or other age-appropriate music via the iHeartRadio Family app that is included with Amazon FreeTime Unlimited. If it is a day that we have dance class right after school, T just takes her tablet along for the ride.
I like knowing that even with her headset on, I don’t have to worry about music with inappropriate lyrics.
Reading and learning. In fourth grade, T is required to do 120 minutes of reading each week. Luckily, she loves to read but she goes through a lot of books. We don’t always have time for trips to the library and buying books can get costly. The many included with Amazon FreeTime Unlimited is wonderful. She can download as many books as she wants and it doesn’t cost me anything extra. I personally much prefer reading a book on my Amazon Kindle Paperwhite and it seems that T would rather use an e-reader too.
With 1 year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited included, families have access to thousands of age-appropriate books, videos, apps and games. Plus, you get top educational titles to help refresh reading comprehension and mathematics skills. Kids can learn and be entertained at the same time.
Amazon FreeTime Unlimited
I’ve talked about Amazon FreeTime, but did I mention that an Amazon FreeTime Unlimited subscription is included with the purchase of your Amazon Fire Kids Tablet? That’s right, and it’s super affordable after that. Amazon FreeTime Unlimited gives you access to thousands of age-appropriate books, videos, apps and games that have been carefully chosen by the FreeTime team of experts. You can also download the Amazon FreeTime app for Android. For more information on Amazon FreeTime and Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, see www.amazon.com/freetime.
Parent Dashboard and Parental Controls
Let’s talk about the Parent Dashboard and parental controls. It is what I love most about this tablet and I have a feeling you will too.
Easily limit screen time. The Parent Dashboard lets you set screen time limits and then not worry about them again. There is also a bedtime setting that lets you set a time when the tablet turns on and when it will shut down for the night. This feature is especially helpful when you have older kids or kids that are a little sneaky at night.
The Learn First feature lets you set an amount of time they spend on academics, before any entertainment content like games and movies are available. Love this!
The Parent Dashboard also lets you see what your child is doing on the tablet. You can even set educational goals. Discussion Cards provide you with a summary of the content your child is watching or reading so you can talk about it together.
There is a kid safe web browsing option available or if you prefer you have the capability in settings to disable the web browser all together. No more worrying about your kids watching inappropriate content.
It is easy to stay on top of what your kids are doing on their Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Edition Tablets. That’s something this busy mom really appreciates.
I used to struggle a lot over the amount of screen time that I allow in our house. We don’t even have a game system. I think maybe it is a generational thing with me being an older parent. All of this technology wasn’t available when I was a kid. I’ve learned though that technology can be a wonderful tool when used properly. With the many educational options and parental controls available with an Amazon Fire Kids Tablet, I feel really comfortable with T spending time on her hers.
Talk about feeling comfortable. The Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Edition Tablet comes in an oh-so important and durable kid case available in a variety of fun colors. You also get a two-year worry free guarantee. If anyone in your house breaks the tablet, you can send it back to Amazon for replacement – no questions asked. FOR REAL.
Can you tell I’m a huge fan of this kids tablet? In my humble opinion the Amazon Fire Kids Edition Tablet is a great thing to have around as the kids head back to school.

This is a great gift to get for my granddaughter for Christmas. I love that it is an interactive learning tool so kids still continue to learn and not just play games. Thanks for your honest review.
Fantastic! I love this Kindle Fire Tablet for Kids! It sure is NOT a toy but a tool for learning. I love that it is loaded with educational books, videos, apps and games. The Parent Dashboard is another cool feature I love!
My kids have a math program that they’re supposed to work on throughout the school year. The Amazon Fire would be perfect for encouraging them to stay on top of that.
