To celebrate the coming of spring, it seemed fitting to make some Bird’s Nest Easter Cookies. You’re going to be amazed by how simple these sweet cookies are to make.

This Easter cookie recipe was first published in March of 2015 and has been updated with some process photos and a video tutorial.
Bird’s Nest Cookies for Easter
Round sugar cookies, buttercream or decorator icing, and candy coated eggs come together easily to create these adorable Bird’s Nest Easter Cookies. You will need a pasty bag or zippered bag and either a star pastry tip or leaf tip to create the grassy top on the eggs.
Here’s are the ingredients you need for this project:
24 Prepared Sugar Cookies (Make your own from scratch, use ready-made dough from the refrigerator section of your grocery store or purchase already prepared sugar cookies from the bakery.)
green buttercream icing (Make your own or buy prepackaged icing to keep it super easy. Use a few drops of greed food coloring to achieve desired shade of green.)
small candy coated eggs
Supplies Needed:
- pastry bag
- star decorator tip or leaf tip
- cooling rack
- cookie sheet

Prepare the Cookies and Frosting
Use your favorite sugar cookie recipe or purchase ready-made dough from the grocery store. Prepare cookies and allow them to cool completely on a cooling rack.
Prepare your icing. You can make your own buttercream icing and tint it green with food coloring or simply buy prepackaged icing and tint it green, to keep this baking project super simple.

How to Create the Bird’s Nests
Step 1: Once the cookies have cooled completely, use a pastry bag and star tip to create a grassy nest on top of the cookies. I think a leaf tip would work fine for this too. Work from the center out.

Step 2: Add a second or third layer if you like, until you have achieved the desired appearance.

Step 3: If you don’t have any decorator tips, just swirl some on with the back of a spoon. This might be easier if you have little ones helping you.
Step 4: Lastly, top each nest with a few candy coated eggs.

These bird’s nest cookies are a great way to create fun, and are sure to be a hit with your family. My little girl loved these cookies. I have a feeling we will be making a lot more of them.
