A Coffee Milkshake is the perfect anytime pick-me-up when you need energy or something to satisfy your sweet cravings!

What’s cool, creamy, decadent, and gives you a burst of energy? A coffee milkshake, of course. Besides that first sip of morning coffee (you know, the one—with that satisfying taste that you know will get your day started right), a frozen coffee concoction may be the next best thing.
My first experience drinking a coffee-flavored milkshake was at a fast-food chain that makes “Jamocha Shakes.” For those who don’t know what this is, follow the recipe below, but swap out the vanilla ice cream for chocolate. The only thing better than vanilla ice cream and coffee is chocolate ice cream and coffee. Either way, you can’t go wrong when you need that midday pick-me-up from a burst of caffeine. Of course, if you want all the flavor without the energizing influence, use decaffeinated instant coffee instead.
So Few Ingredients – So Much Flavor!
When it comes to quick and easy recipes, this one leads the pack. All you need is the following:
- Coffee: This recipe works with instant regular or decaf coffee powder, espresso powder, or freeze-dried coffee granules. Remember to let the dissolved coffee cool before making the shake; otherwise, you will have melted ice cream. You can also use ¼ cup of brewed espresso or coffee. Make sure any brewed coffee is cold.
- Ice cream: I like to use high-quality vanilla ice cream when making shakes, like those with vanilla bean specks. It just makes everything taste better. As mentioned, you can also use chocolate ice cream in this recipe. To maximize the coffee flavor, use coffee ice cream in this shake. Non-dairy and plant-based vegan ice creams will also work.
- Milk: Although whole milk is listed as an ingredient, you can use any milk you choose. If using plant-based milk, it is best to go with unsweetened to avoid having the shake turn out too sweet.

Looking For A Grown-Up Version – Try These Suggestions!
The only thing better than a coffee milkshake is a spiked coffee milkshake. Yes! I’m going there!!! Think about some of the liqueurs you like to add to your after-dinner coffee. My favorites are Frangelico, Tia Maria, Bailey’s Irish Cream, RumChata, Kahlúa, Crème de Cacao, and Amaretto. Any of these will elevate your milkshake to the next level. Dessert will never be the same!

How to Make Ahead and Store
Milkshakes are best consumed right after they are made. You can store them in the refrigerator for up to 30 minutes, but any longer, and they will begin to melt. You can also store them in an airtight freezer container. When ready to enjoy, take them out and let them thaw for a few minutes before blending them again to achieve the proper consistency.

Serving Suggestions
You can top your shake with whipped cream, sprinkles, cinnamon, or cocoa powder, or get creative and attach a cake pop to the top of a straw and insert it into the glass. Enjoy the coffee milkshake as a midday break with a slice of Zucchini Bread or a Maple Pecan Scone.
If you use leftover brewed coffee to make your milkshake, I have an excellent suggestion for the coffee grounds. Make a Sugary Coconut Coffee Scrub to keep your skin smooth. Now you can enjoy your drink and “wear it” too! That’s my silly chuckle for the day.
