This Cookies and Cream Milkshake is not just for kids—grownups like it, too!

Milkshakes are incredibly easy to make at home. There’s no need to get in the car and drive to an overpriced ice cream shop for a fancy shake. Most people have the necessary ingredients in their house and don’t even realize it. After all, if you have kids, there’s a good chance you have ice cream, milk, and cookies on hand.
Making milkshakes with my kids when they were little was lots of fun. It was something they could help with, as I often let them push the blender buttons to watch the magic happen. Of course, their favorite part was shaking the whipped cream can and pressing the nozzle to make the fluffy white sugar squirt out. There were many messes to clean up those days, as whipped cream seemed to get everywhere—not just in the mouth!
Milkshakes and Memories – a Great Part Of Youth
I often reminisce about the times I spent in the kitchen with my kids when they were young. While they never helped prepare meals as much as I would like, they are both excellent cooks as young adults. Of course, no matter how old they get, they will always be young adults in my mind.
Making milkshakes with your child is one of the many ways to create wonderful memories. You can go to the grocery store together to pick out ice cream and cookie flavors. Don’t be surprised at some of the “crazy” combinations they come up with. Sometimes, moms must go with the flow and let the kids take charge. You may think peanut butter sandwich cookies will taste terrible with coffee and mint chip ice creams, but you’ll never know until you try them in a shake. Besides, if it does taste awful, you will always have that precious memory to laugh about well into the future.
Milkshakes Are Just As Great When Made Dairy-Free
Many kids and adults have food allergies, sensitivities, or other reasons that often keep them from enjoying special foods with others. I’ve maintained a gluten-free home, at least for one family member, for over 20 years. We’ve also been on dairy-free, paleo, keto, and low-fodmap diets at times. So, I know what it’s like to get creative with special meals and treats.
With so many unique products available, it’s become much easier to enjoy the “same” foods as everyone else. Being dairy-free no longer means doing without ice cream treats. It almost seems there are as many non-dairy ice cream varieties at the grocery store as there are dairy ones. You can make fantastic dairy-free cookies and cream milkshakes that satisfy anyone’s cravings.

- maraschino cherries (for garnish)

Instructions
Prep time – 5 minutes
Cooking time – 0 minutes
Yields – 2 servings
Step 1: Place the vanilla ice cream, milk, and 5 Oreo cookies into a blender.

Step 2: Blend on high until smooth, about 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Step 3: Pour the milkshake into two glasses, top with whipped cream and crumble the remaining Oreo cookie over the top as garnish.

Step 4: Finish with a maraschino cherry on each glass.
How to Make Ahead and Store
Making milkshakes ahead of time can be a bit tricky, as they lose their consistency over time. You can store your cookies and cream milkshake in the refrigerator for up to 30 minutes. Anything longer requires freezing. However, using cookies in a milkshake can cause it to get gummy when it sits for a while, so it’s best to drink it right away.
