There was a time when it seemed that a soccer ball was a natural extension of my son’s foot. Soccer was the very first team sport that he participated in, and he quickly became hooked. So did I. With my son out on the field and my husband on the sidelines coaching, I sat in the stands screaming and cheering until I was sure to be hoarse for days. Being a “soccer mom” was fun. Except maybe for the two seasons that my son played the goalie position. That was nerve wracking. Some of the younger players hadn’t quite figured out that you are supposed to stop kicking at the ball, once the goalie has it in his clutches. There were some touch and go moments. I didn’t want him to continue playing that position, but he was good at it and he knew it. This was one battle that the boy won.
I was so excited when Honey Maid asked me to partner with them on a soccer snack themed post. It seemed the perfect fit, and so timely with all of the World Cup excitement that has been going on.
As my son got older we became frequent attendees to our local professional soccer games, the Tampa Bay Rowdies. I was fortunate in that some of the players frequented the office where I worked and regularly gave me tickets to the games. It was such a wonderful gift, for a newly single Mom on a very tight budget.
With the 2014 FIFA World Cup Soccer tournament wrapping up soon, my son and I have been doing a lot of reminiscing about his days on the field and the our fun afternoons spent watching the Rowdies. I can’t get over all of the soccer excitement I have seen this year. People who have never had any interest in soccer before have found themselves rooting for Team USA. I think it’s awesome! I’m sure many little girls and boys have asked Mom or Dad for a new soccer ball this past week.
Keeping little soccer players fueled is important stuff, as well as rewarding them for a job well done. I have some ideas for delicious soccer game day snacks with Honey Maid that I want to share with you.
Honey Maid has been a maker of top snacks for kids as long as I can remember and that’s a long time, because I am getting old. I remember snacking on Honey Maid Graham Crackers as a kid. It was always such a treat when we used them to make s’mores – a tradition that I have carried on with my own child.
Making s’mores the old fashioned way is great, but let’s face it. Most moms are much too busy for that. This is one of the reasons I am obsessed with Honey Maid® Grahamfuls! The filled crackers are a delicious snack made with real Honey Maid graham crackers in five flavors: S’mores, Peanut Butter & Chocolate, Banana Vanilla Creme, Strawberry Yogurt Creme, and Cinnamon Creme. The S’mores variety is my family’s current favorite. These grab-and-go snacks are perfect for on the way to the soccer field. Honey Maid® Grahamfuls are made with 100% whole grain (10g whole grain per serving), and contain real honey. That’s something this “soccer mom” likes.
My family’s absolute FAVORITE way to enjoy s’mores is homemade S’mores Trail Mix made with Honey Maid Teddy Grahams. This 3 ingredient snack is simple enough to make that you can make a whole lot of it to share it with the entire soccer team! I have a feeling you might find yourself being nominated to be Team Mom if you do this, so be prepared.
Honey Maid Teddy Grahams + Mini Marshmallows + Chocolate Chips = S’mores Trail Mix. It’s that easy!
Honey Maid® Teddy Grahams are a good source of calcium, iron, zinc and contain 8g whole grain per serving. They are also low in saturated fat and contain no cholesterol. Honey Maid® Teddy Grahams are available in six delicious varieties: Honey, Chocolate, Cinnamon, Chocolatey Chip, Strawberry Banana and Mixed Berry.
Honey Maid Teddy Grahams and Honey Maid Grahamfuls make the perfect pre and post soccer practice and game day snacks. They are delicious easy and convenient snacks that can help fuel kids.
