How Is This a Stem Experiment
Kids will see how the Alka Seltzer tablets, oil and water combine and what the reaction looks like. Kids will see how the Alka Seltzer tablets change the oil and water. Kids will also see how oil and water react to each other.
What Else Can Kids Add to the DIY Lava Lamp Stem Experiment
We are adding food coloring to the lava lamp but you can also add glitter and small pieces of confetti. Anything bigger will not continue to go around in the solution.
DIY Lava Lamp Stem Experiment Supplies
- Oil
- Water
- Liquid food coloring
- Alka Seltzer tablets
- Large jar
How to Make DIY Lava Lamp Stem Experiment
Pour oil into the jar, filling to about half way.
Fill the remaining part of the jar with water. (The water will sink creating fun bubbles.)
Add several drops of food coloring and watch it float to the middle and then pop into the water.
Add an Alka Seltzer tablet to the jar and watch the bubbles move.
Repeat as desired, experimenting with adding colors and/or breaking the tablet into pieces before dropping it into the jar.
