Easter Chick Oreo Pops

After a couple of miserable attempts at making cake pops, I quickly realized that Oreo Pops are much simpler to make and my family and friends enjoy them just as much. Last summer I made these 4th of July Oreo Pops and they were a real hit, so I decided to make some Easter treat pops for our family gathering this weekend. My local craft store had Wilton Candy Melts 50% a couple of weeks ago, and I stocked up on all the colors of spring, including several bags of yellow, which were prefect for these Easter Chick Oreo Pops.

These little chicks turned out so cute.

Easter is such a wonderful time for crafts. I don’t know why. Perhaps it’s the arrival of spring that has everyone wanting to DO stuff. In any case, you can pair these pops with a DIY Easter Candy Jar then complete the package by making an Easter Bunny Bag, doing Sponge-Painted Easter Egg Craft, and trying one of 63 Ways to Dye Easter Eggs (yes, 63!)

Easter Chick Oreo Pops Instructions

  • Carefully separate the cookie to insert the lollipop stick. Use a dab of candy melts or frosting to secure the stick between the 2 cookie halves. Allow to set for a few minutes.
  • Dip the Oreo Pops into the candy melts, and carefully shake off any excess. Smooth a bit with the back of a spoon if needed.
  • While the coating is still soft, place 2 eyes onto the chick. Next, add 1 candy-coated chip for the beak and 2 orange wild-flower sprinkles near the bottom for the feet. Place on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper and chill until chocolate coating is set.

FAQs

Do I need to buy these ingredients off Amazon? How hard are they to find?

No. While I ordered them from Amazon, you should also be able to pick these supplies up at your grocery store or craft store.

Is the frosting stiff enough to extend it up for a feathery tuft on top of each chick’s head?

I don’t see why not. Terrific idea!

Is there a knack to splitting Oreos?

(I was asked this for my 4th of July Oreo Pops; figured I would repost this question here)

Ha! Like everything, practice makes perfect. But if you find you’re going through a lot of cookies, I would suggest twisting, not pulling, the cookie pieces apart. You can also chill them beforehand to firm up the filling and make it easier to split. And if these tips don’t work, apply a knife or fork and split them that way.

How To Store Chick Oreo Pops

Place the Oreo pops in an airtight container or individually wrap them in plastic. This will prevent them from drying out. Keep them in a cool, dry place to prevent the icing from melting. You can store them in the fridge for up to 4 days. You can also freeze them. To do so, individually wrap them in plastic then put them in an airtight container. They should last for up to a month. When you’re ready to eat the pops, take them out of the fridge/freezer and let them come to room temperature before removing the plastic. This will prevent condensation from forming.
