Change up a classic with these Sloppy Joe Burgers. These juicy Sloppy Joe Hamburgers have the same great taste as a regular “manwich” sloppy joe sandwich, but without all the mess!
Sloppy Joe Burgers Are Less Messy!
A delicious mess-free alternative to the Sloppy Joe sandwich!
The classic Sloppy Joe Sandwich takes me back to my childhood. The grown-up me doesn’t necessarily love the mess that they make. Personally, I prefer to eat my food rather than wear it. This not-so-sloppy Sloppy Joe Burger recipe is a game changer. The next time the kids ask for Sloppy Joes fire up the grill instead.
Make Sloppy Joes your way and have them come out perfect every time. This really is one of the very best hamburger patty recipes that I make.
I get tired of having the same ole burgers each weekend, and try to mix things up a bit by adding different seasonings and ingredients to the burgers. It doesn’t have to be anything complicated… just delicious.
Ingredients You’ll Need to Make Sloppy Joe Hamburgers
Lean Ground Beef – I prefer a ground chuck with a 80 lean/20 fat ratio for the juiciest hamburger patties.
Ketchup – This key ingredient helps keep the burgers juicy and lends to the classic sloppy joe flavor.
Sloppy Joe Seasoning Mix – One envelope is all you’ll need for seasoning.
Cheese Slices – This recipe calls for American cheese, but use what you like. Cheddar cheese is a great choice too.
Hamburger Buns – Choose your favorite. Just make sure the size of the bun is proportionate to the size of your hamburger patties.
How to Make the Perfect Hamburger Patty
Heat grill or grill pan over medium heat. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ketchup and seasoning mix. Shape into 6 patties.
Tip: When forming your patties, make them slightly larger than the size of your buns to account for shrinkage while cooking. These mouthwatering burgers can be made as thin patties or as thick All-American 1/3 pound patties. Make perfectly shaped hamburgers every time with this Hamburger Press.
Grill patties over medium heat. Cook 14 to 19 minutes or until meat is no longer pink, turning once. During the last 2 minutes of cooking, place cheese on burgers and continue cooking until cheese is melted. Serve on sandwich buns.
What to Serve With Sloppy Joe Hamburgers
These burgers are a summertime and game day favorite for my friends and family. I will typically serve these hamburgers with Garlic Parmesan Grilled Corn and either Deviled Egg Potato Salad or Potato Salad with Dill Relish. Of course, fries are always a safe bet!

I love sloppy joe sandwiches! I have to admit I have ruined a few tshirts while munching on them. I like to add chopped green onions to my sloppy joes!
