Holiday Cooking with Kids

Can you believe Thanksgiving is less than a week away? There’s no denying it, the holiday cooking season is in full swing. With parents spending more time in the kitchen, keeping the kids entertained is increasingly challenging. Getting children involved with meal preparation and setting the table is a great way to get quality time together as a family, and instill some family traditions. My son started cooking with me from a very early age, and is now quite an accomplished cook himself. I love it when he sends me a text message of a meal he has prepared all by himself.

I just kick-started a new conversation over in the Residence Inn Family Travel Talk Forum, and we’re sharing tips for cooking with kids whether you are cooking at home or traveling this holiday season. The Facebook forum is open to everyone. If you’re not already a member, just request to join.

The Residence Inn Family Travel Talk Forum regularly features tips from 10 family travel expert bloggers from around the country every month, with topics such as traveling with different ages of kids, finding balance in travel, traveling with teens and more. It’s a great place to ask family and travel questions, and connect with other parents with a passion or interest in traveling.

I hope you’ll join this conversation about cooking with kids during the holiday season, and leave a comment on my post in the forum and share your own tips!

  • I LOVE cooking with kids … However not sure if I’m brave enough to try it in a hotel! Kudos for you for doing so!

    Happy thanksgiving!

  • a good conversation to kickstart. holiday memories are made by children baking and helping in the kitchen

  • This sounds great! Some of my happiest memories were learning to bake, being taught by my older sister. I didn’t realize it at first, but being asked to do the dishes while she mixed and rolled, was how I started “cooking” !! But soon enough I started with pies, cream puffs, and could make a cake without a recipe! It is good to know how to teach, many kids were totally turned off cooking (and sewing) from home ec classes, the teachers were cranky and made it all seem like a chore and bore!

  • i have spent a lot of time in the kitchen baking and cooking with most of my nephews and nieces. it is great time spent together!

  • Cooking with kids during the Holidays is a great idea. I will share this article with my mommy friends! I loved making Christmas cookies as a kid.
