I’m so proud to say that I am a Tween Mom Ambassador for U by Kotex. With 3 daughters and 4 granddaughters, 2 of which are tweens, I feel like I have a bit to offer on the topic of helping tweens prepare for their first period. A lot has changed since I was a girl, even since my daughters were girls. The lines of communication between moms and daughters have improved considerably. Today I communicate more openly with my granddaughters than I did when my girls were tweens and teens. Not only has communication improved, but the menstruation products available to women and tweens have come a long way over the years.

I think it’s really important to have good communication with your tween before having ‘the talk’. If your daughter or granddaughter feels comfortable talking to you about sensitive topics ahead of time, the period talk will go a lot smoother. Also, don’t wait too long to have the talk. It can be really scary for a young girl to start her period and not know what is going on.

I so wish that these products and information was around when I was a kid. What a shock it was to start my period while in the 5th grade – I had NO CLUE!
