I have partnered with Rubbermaid to participate in a FreshWorksâ„¢ Produce Saver #LongLiveProduce challenge. Product and compensation to purchase fruits and vegetables was provided.
One of the things I absolutely love about summer is all the beautiful produce available at my local farm stand. Buying fresh fruits and vegetables can eat up a big part of the grocery budget. That’s why I cringe when something goes bad, before we’ve had a chance to eat it. I was thrilled to learn about the Rubbermiad FreshWorksâ„¢ Produce Saver, an innovative food storage container that uses patented technology to keep produce fresher up to 80% longer.
It seems I am not alone in my struggle to keep produce fresh. Did you know that Americans waste 23 billion pounds of fresh produce each year because it spoils before we can eat it? That’s 187 pounds per household! The unique design of the FreshWorks Produce Saver creates the optimal environment to keep produce fresh.
The FreshWorks Produce Saver is available in three different sizes to fit all produce needs. It can hold many types of produce, from berries to leafy greens. I received one each of the following sizes in my kit:
Small (2.5 Cups): Ideal for small berries
Medium (6.3 Cups): Perfect for strawberries
Large (17.3 Cups): Optimal for leafy greens
With the FreshWorks Produce Saver, you can simply move produce from store packaging to the FreshWorks containers before refrigerating to maintain freshness for longer.
To participate in the challenge, I headed to my local farm stand and picked up some plums, blueberries and lettuce. Before washing, I placed half of the produce into the FreshWorks Produce Savers and stored the other half of the produce as I normally would.
FreshWorks is different in that it uses revolutionary FreshVentâ„¢ technology to regulate the flow of oxygen and carbon dioxide, while the CrispTrayâ„¢ helps reduce moisture and spoilage to keep produce fresher for up to 80% longer.
I like that I can open the fridge and easily see what produce I have available.
Fast forward 2 weeks and take a look at the difference between the fruit that was kept in the FreshWorks Produce Savers and the fruit that was not.
These are the plums that were not stored in a FreshWorks container. They have darkened in color, are splitting and oozing. Not something you would want to eat.
The plums stored in a FreshWorks Produce Saver look exactly as they did when purchased from the farm stand two weeks earlier. I am so impressed by these results.
The blueberries that were not stored in FreshWorks aren’t looking so good either. They are overly soft and beginning to get oozy and sticky. Yuck. They were kept in the refrigerator in a plastic container that did not have the benefit of  FreshVentâ„¢ technology or a CrispTrayâ„¢ and you can really tell the difference.
These are the beautiful blueberries that were stored in the refrigerator in a FreshWorks Produce Saver.
The lettuce that wasn’t put into a FreshWorks Produce Saver was rather slimy with a lot of black spots after two weeks. Not something I would eat. Don’t worry though, all this spoiled produce went over to my brother’s farm where it was put to good use.
Lettuce that was stored in FreshWorks is still crisp and bright green.
I am so blown away by how much fresher my produce stayed while stored in the FreshWorks Produce Savers. I’m a believer. By extending the life of your fruits and vegetables, the FreshWorks Produce Saver keeps food looking and tasting its very best for longer.
Americans throw away $24 billion worth of produce each year. That’s $192 per household that could be saved every year by using FreshWorks. I work hard for the money that feeds my family and know you do too. I hope you’ll join me and take the Rubbermaid #LongLiveProduce challenge, so you can stop throwing away spoiled produce too.
Oh these are neat. I have so much fresh produce right now from the farmer’s market but it’s hard to use it up fast enough.
I prefer fresh produce, but our weeks get so busy that we often have things going to waste. I need to pick some of these up so I can save some money and not waste food.
Oh my goodness, I can’t tell you how much produce I end up throwing away. I don’t even want to think about it! Must check these out!
We go through a ton of produce, most of the time half of it gets thrown out as we get so busy or just forget its there. This would be a great way to make sure we are throwing out a lot less!
Now these sound like some must have tubs what a great idea! x
I really love this and need something like this. I just let my family know that I would appreciate a few of these for a birthday that I have coming up next month.
This is awesome. I am always wondering how I can get my produce to last longer.
I have tried so many things, and I just threw out my Rubbermaid. I did give it a try, but a friend of mine gave me a free Tupperware container and it has changed my life. I remember my mother buying this stuff when I was a kid. Funny thing is, I told her I was buying some, and she started pulling hers out to see what she needed to replace. I will be ready for all of these great recipes for certain.
These look great to use for keeping food fresh longer. I need to get these.
