This is great for kids to make because it’s easy and relatively mess-free as well as delicious!

A freshly baked loaf of bread in a bag, golden brown and ready to slice.

Ingredients:

  • 1 heaping tablespoon dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup very warm water
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1 1/2 cup additional flour (extra flour if still too sticky)
  • 1 gallon size zip style plastic bag
  • measuring cups
  • measuring spoons
  • bread pan, cookie sheet, or muffin tins (depending on what you make)
  • no-stick cooking spray

Instructions:

Step 1: Put yeast, 1 1/2 cups flour, sugar and salt into bag.

Step 2: Add margarine and warm water.

Step 3: Press most of the air out of the bag and seal.

Step 4: Press and squeeze the bag with your hands until the dough becomes mixed.

Step 5: Open bag and add last 1 1/2 cups flour.

Step 6: Reseal bag and keep squeezing until the flour is worked into the dough.

Step 7: Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup more flour if your dough is very sticky.

Step 8: Unzip the bag and let the dough rest for 20 minutes.

Step 9: This will let the dough rise. Spray the pan with no-stick cooking spray.

Step 10: Punch the dough down. Then take the dough out of the bag and place it in the pan in a warm, but not hot, place to rise until about doubled in size. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Step 11: Bake bread for 25 to 30 minutes or rolls for 12 to 15 minutes. Remove from pan and cool.
