Share What Makes You Happy

Do you have a hobby or passion that makes you happy, and have you shared that passion with friends and family? Surprisingly, many of us tend to keep these sort of things to ourselves. II was recently asked by Nutella to write about something that I am passionate about, and I shared my passion for making homemade cards and sending handwritten notes to friends – something that is sadly becoming a thing of the past. That prompted me to invite my sister-in-law over one day last week, to share my passion for making homemade cards.

I invited my sister-in-law over and pulled out a bunch of my scrapbooking and cardmaking supplies for an afternoon of creative fun. I shake my head in bewilderment realizing that in the 20+ years of knowing each other, we’ve never really spent an afternoon doing crafts together.

Chrishelle was quick to say that she doesn’t share my creative gene, but once we got started she surprised us both. I think her cards turned out even better than my own.

That afternoon was not just about the card crafting though. It was also a chance for us to get caught up with each others lives, laugh at each other and just have fun. It was also a chance for me to share another of my other favorite things with Chrishelle. All that crafting worked up an appetite for some Nutella.

I am so glad I shared my passion for paper crafts with Chrishelle, and have a feeling there are many more creative afternoons in our future. When is the last time you shared what makes you happy with a friend?

  • Those cards look great! Oh, how I love nutella- never had it while I was back in the US, but since moving to Europe it is everywhere here! My warning is never to look at the calorie content of it.

  • Very pretty cards. I love to cook and bake and I send in treats to my husband’s volunteer firemen every other week for their training sessions.

  • I love the cards!!! and i love the smiles, being happy is very important and its great to have someone to share that happiness with. i love to blog and play guitar(just learning) its great when you find that you can do something that you have always wanted and never thought you can do.. great post

  • Oh that’s fun! I think I need to find a day to write out all the birthday cards for the year so I remember. I am really bad at that. The few I get in the mail really make me smile and you are right it is sad that its not something people do much anymore. Looks like you had fun with your sister!

  • I love Nutella, and I love it especially on my apples. I think your passion for homemade cards is awesome. Have you thought about making it into a part-time business?

  • I’ve never tried Nutella, but I’ve been tempted. I’m a picky eater! I have spent a lot of time making hand made note cards though and it is definitely sad that people don’t send hand written notes in the mail anymore, no many anyway. It looks like the two of you enjoyed a great day.
