On the weekends I like to make a big, hearty late morning breakfast. A breakfast skillet is one of my favorite dishes to prepare. Partly because most of the dish is cooked in one cast iron skillet, and also because just a few simple ingredients yield big flavor.
Last weekend I decided to spice things up a bit for my skillet breakfast, and headed to Publix for hot sauce and some other ingredients. Instead of my usual breakfast sausage, I picked up some Chorizo. Then I headed over to the International Foods aisle to check out the habanero sauces. I wanted some authentic flavor.
I snagged up all three flavors of El Yucateco Habanero Sauce. I wasn’t playing when I said I wanted to spice things up!
It was hard to choose just one, so I got the Red Habanero Sauce, Green Habanero Sauce, and XXXtra Hot Kutbil-ik Sauce. This was going to be one amazing breakfast!
Spicy Skillet Breakfast with El Yucateco Hot Sauce
ingredients:
1 pound chorizo
1.5 – 2 pounds potatoes, cubed
1 red bell pepper, diced
1 large yellow onion, diced
1 dozen eggs
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
El Yucateco Habanero Sauce
directions:
In a 12-inch cast iron skillet or other large skillet, cook the chorizo until crumbly and cooked through. Remove from skillet with a slotted spoon and place on a plate covered with paper towels.
In the same pan saute the onion and red pepper until tender. Remove from skillet and set aside.
Add about 1 tablespoon olive oil to pan and cook the potatoes until browned and fork tender. Add the chorizo, onion, red pepper and eggs back to the skillet and stir to combine. Top with chopped parsley.
If it were up to me, I would add the hot sauce directly into the breakfast skillet, but not everyone in my family shares my appreciation for hot sauce. It was nice having the variety of hot sauces available, so that everyone could choose their favorite.
This Spicy Breakfast Skillet is so delicious and hearty, making it perfect for any meal – breakfast, lunch or dinner. Be sure to check out these other hot sauce recipes from El Yucateco!

This is a great breakfast. I almost passed the recipe by because of the hot sauces. The kids would not like that, but then I noticed that you added yours after it was served. That would be perfect for my family.
I have never tried this brand before, but the meal looks great. We love to spice things up!

That looks delicious! The habenero might be a little too much for my taste, but my husband would love it.
