Cool, frothy, and frosty—this Strawberry Smoothie Recipe is perfect any time of year!

During the summer, a refreshing, fruity frozen beverage is one of my favorite ways to cool down. This strawberry smoothie recipe fits the bill. Smoothies are great whenever you want a quick and easy snack or beverage. They work as a snack because they are often loaded with nutrients your body can use for energy, depending on the ingredients you use. Smoothies can help fill you up while quenching your thirst and refreshing you on the hottest days.

Does that mean you can only enjoy this strawberry smoothie in the heat of the summer? Not at all! Smoothies are perfect for summer, winter, spring, and fall. Because they are one of the most customizable beverages, you can add whatever you like to meet your needs.

For example, when I have a smoothie for breakfast, I often add a handful of fresh spinach (or kale) and some flax or chia seeds. If desired, you can add uncooked oats, protein powder, nut or seed butter, and other fruits or grains.

Smoothies are the perfect on-the-go snack because you can take them in the car, on a walk, to work, on your bike, or anywhere else. They take only minutes to make. Put everything in your blender, push a button, and you’ve got an instant smoothie!

Options To Make This A Non-Dairy Smoothie

Although this recipe uses milk and Greek yogurt, you can easily adjust those ingredients to make a non-dairy version. The first option is to replace the milk and yogurt with plant-based, non-dairy versions. I often use plain, unsweetened coconut or almond milk and whatever plant-based plain yogurt is on sale at the grocery store.

In fact, right now, I have four containers of unsweetened almond milk in my fridge because they were recently buy-one-get-one-free, so I stocked up. They have long expiration dates, so that was perfect. Many brands of non-dairy milk contain added ingredients that I don’t like, such as carrageenan, unnecessary gums, or chemicals. The almond milk I use has only two ingredients—almonds and water, so taking advantage of sales helps save money and lets me get the products I like to use.

The other option is to forgo the milk and yogurt and use fruit juice instead. Some options include orange, pineapple, cranberry, apple, and grape juice. It’s best to choose juice without added sugar.

FAQs & Tips

How Do I Store Leftovers?

While smoothies are always best when freshly made, leftovers can be refrigerated in airtight containers (jars are ideal) for up to 24 hours or stored in the freezer for longer. Let the frozen smoothie defrost on the counter for 5-10 minutes before blending again if it is too hard. You may need to add a little more liquid or some ice cubes. Another option is to make ice cubes from the smoothie and store them in a freezer bag. Squeeze out the air before sealing. The cubes will last up to 3 months and are easy to blend when ready to enjoy.

Can I Use Strawberry Greek Yogurt Instead Of Plain?

Yes, you can use strawberry Greek yogurt, but because it has added sugar, I would omit the honey and reduce the frozen strawberries to 1 ½ cups. Ensure that your frozen berries do not have any added sugar; otherwise, the smoothie will be too sweet. You may also want to use low-fat milk.

What Other Fruit Can I Use In This Recipe?

My favorite substitute for frozen strawberries is frozen blueberries. You can replace the strawberries one-to-one with the blueberries. Other delicious options include frozen peaches, mangos, raspberries, or cherries.

Serving Suggestions

In my opinion, this strawberry smoothie recipe needs nothing else because it is filling and perfect. That being said, it is also an ideal accompaniment to any breakfast, midday snack, or as a refreshing dessert. Some of my favorite breakfast options to go with a smoothie include Baked Eggs and Avocado Deviled Eggs. These are both easy-to-eat options that are great on the go. Peach Scones are another excellent option, and they also go great with the smoothie as a quick afternoon snack break.
