It isn’t often that I want to hang out in a bar on a Friday or Saturday night. A girls night in is more my thing these days.

Sweet and Savory Goat Cheese Toasts

There’s nothing better than having some girlfriends over for some wine, good food, maybe a little gossip, and definitely a great chick flick. I have one that I just watched and highly recommend for your next movie night with the girls.

The romantic comedy BOOK CLUB was the perfect movie for my recent girls’ night in and it is now available on both Digital and Blu-ray. I adore this movie, and have a feeling you will too!

Be sure to make my sweet and savory goat cheese toasts when you watch this movie. It’s a delectable snack that comes together easily. I promise your girlfriends will love it! Get the recipe from the bottom of this post.

BOOK CLUB is all about female friendship, making it a perfect film for a girls’ night in. In the film, 4 friends (Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, Mary Steenburgen) get together to discuss the latest book they’re reading which happens to be a romantic novel.

You’ll have to read a little further down, watch the trailer or just skip to watching the movie to see which book they were reading. I won’t tell!!

A sweet and savory appetizer that comes together easily. Warm goat cheese toasts topped with chopped walnuts, fresh thyme and a honey drizzle. Paired with a nice bottle of wine, this appetizer recipe is perfect for your next girls night in.

But, in addition to the book, they end up talking about so much more. Supporting, encouraging, and enjoying each other. Just what you would expect from good friends… are you seeing why this movie is perfect for your next girls’ night?!

Did you catch the all-star cast I mentioned? This group of ladies is incredibly funny and super duper talented.

I feel like this movie was made for me, and not just because I am part of the over 40 club, because this movie is one that women of all ages will enjoy. Mostly, because after a bit of a dry spell I am in a romantic relationship again, and to say I was a little awkward in the beginning is an understatement. Okay, I’m always awkward but he’s getting used to it now.

I’m also at a point in my life professionally where I am having to re-invent myself in ways, try new things and take a few chances. I love how this movie portrays that it is never too late to live your life to the fullest, pursue goals, and find love. Honestly, at the age of 48 I am having more fun than I have in more than 10-15 years. I adore that this movie shows how fulfilling this next chapter in a woman’s life can be.

The next chapter is the best chapter.

Plan a girls’ night in and watch BOOK CLUB the movie!

Ready to plan your next girls night in? Purchase your copy of BOOK CLUB on Blu-ray and make plans to watch it at home this weekend. The release includes hilarious bonus content, like the making of the film, deleted scenes, and more.

A proper girls’ night in requires some yummy eats and a good bottle of wine. I made some delectable sweet and savory goat cheese toasts and paired it with a favorite bottle of Pino Grigio. Easy peasy and YUMMY. Want the recipe?

Ingredients:

  • 1 8-ounce French-bread baguette
  • olive oil
  • 8 ounces soft fresh goat cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
  • 1/4 cup honey

Instructions:

Step 1: Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2: Slice the baguette into 1/4-inch slices. Brush both sides with olive oil and place on a sheet pan. Bake in the oven for 8 – 10 minutes, turning once, until toasted. Set aside.

Step 3: Spread goat cheese on each slice of warm bread. Return to oven and bake until cheese softens, about 2 minutes. Set aside on sheet. Heat honey in small saucepan over medium heat until warm, about 2 minutes. Sprinkle toasts with walnuts, then thyme. Drizzle with honey and serve.

Delish!

A little more about the film…

Diane (Diane Keaton) is recently widowed after 40 years of marriage. Vivian (Jane Fonda) enjoys her men with no strings attached. Sharon (Candice Bergen) is still working through a decades-old divorce. Carol’s (Mary Steenburgen) marriage is in a slump after 35 years.

Four lifelong friends have their lives turned upside down to hilarious ends when their book club tackles the infamous Fifty Shades of Grey. From discovering new romance to rekindling old flames, they inspire each other to make their next chapter the best chapter.

I absolutely love the idea of making a good snack and getting this movie. Not many of my gals live nearby but it would be fun to do a get together in a hotel together!

I’d take that whole tray as my portion. You’d need to make a lot more if I was there!

I don’t think I’ve ever had goat cheese before, but I am willing to try it. I love cheese, and I am all about these little toasts. A book club? That’s fun too, I need to do something like this around here.
