Make the thickest, savory Turkey Burger possible with ingenious add-ins that help you create one big bite of a burger just filled with flavor.

Did you know that ground turkey can be the best meat for making really thick, juicy burgers in less than 30 minutes flat?

What?!? You don’t think you can make a big, juicy turkey burger that holds together perfectly? Sure, you can!

As moms know, making homemade turkey burgers can be a challenge. After all, getting a turkey burger to just stay formed into a burger shape is not always easy. Ground turkey, after all, is such lean ground meat.

In fact, if you throw a plain old turkey burger patty into a pan, you will often get a pan of fried ground turkey meat (smile).

That’s because, without a little assistance from add-ins, turkey burgers will fall apart and crumble, as one little one I know of puts it, “like cwazy.”

So, what’s a smart mom to do? Simply add ingredients that will bring the fat and flavor turkey needs to form into one thick, meaty, flavorful burger.

Luscious mayonnaise, for example, helps bring the fat that turkey meat lacks, while pungent Dijon mustard and savory Worcestershire sauce help infuse these burgers with complementary flavors.

In your hot skillet, those thick turkey burgers cook in a quick 10 minutes, and—as they do—the seasonings crisp up on the outside, forming a dark, flavorful crust you just sink your teeth into and savor.

And the best thing about turkey burgers? You can shape them as thick as you please because they fry up not just quickly but deliciously, too—and all the way through.

Why Moms And Kids Will Love These Turkey Burgers

A good turkey burger is not a substitute for a hamburger.

Oh, no-no-no.

A good turkey burger is one flavorful experience of a burger in and of itself.

I mean, sometimes, we don’t feel like eating a big, beefy burger, as delicious as they might be…

Sometimes, we want a thick, juicy, leaner, more poultry-flavored burger—and then to slather it with our favorite flavor-enhancing sauces and condiments.

My favorite way to eat a turkey burger? First, I make a turkey burger play on a Reuben sandwich, drizzled with Thousand Island dressing and topped with this Vinegar Coleslaw, which is just amazing.

Or, for another flavorful turkey burger fix, try a Buffalo turkey burger slathered in delicious Buffalo Sauce and topped with red onion slices and melted cheddar cheese … DIVINE.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey (93% lean)
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard

  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

FAQs & Tips

How Do I Store Leftovers?

You can refrigerate these turkey burgers (without the buns) for up to 3 days in a storage bag or airtight container. To freeze these, wrap individual burgers in plastic wrap and then stack them in gallon freezer bags. You can freeze these for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and heat in the microwave in 30-second blasts or warm them in the oven at 350°F until heated through. Since this is poultry we’re talking about here, make sure your burgers reach an internal temp of 165° F.

Other Delicious Add-Ons For Turkey Burgers?

For a deliciously new take on a turkey burger, try a Greek turkey burger. Simply slather your turkey burger with Tzatziki Sauce, onions, and feta cheese, and it will entice you with its pungent, savory flavors.

How To Make These Turkey Burgers Deliciously Gluten-Free?

To ensure completely gluten-free ingredients from burger to bun, use the following certified gluten-free substitutes for any and all ingredients that might contain gluten: French’s Dijon Mustard, Hellmann’s Real Mayonnaise, Lea & Perrins Worcestershire, and Udi’s gluten-free hamburger buns.

Serving Suggestions
