Slices of Crock-Pot Slow Cooker Apple Cider Ham served on a white plate.

As long as I can remember, I’ve cooked a ham for Christmas dinner. It is easy to prepare and goes wonderfully with some of my favorite sides like corn pudding and macaroni and cheese. I can’t forget the apple crisp for dessert. I think you’re really going to love this Crock-Pot Slow Cooker Apple Cider Ham recipe that I am sharing with you today. It’s a wonderful no-fuss recipe that has all the delicious flavors of the holiday season.

Think about how wonderful it will be to have this holiday ham cooking away in your slow cooker while your oven is cooking all of your side dishes. No worries about everything being ready at the same time.

When choosing your ham make sure it fits in your Crock-Pot slow cooker. Around 5 pounds is ideal for a 6 quart slow cooker. Also, I recommend a bone-in or semi-boneless ham that isn’t smoked for this recipe. A spiral cut ham is great if you can find a good sale. My grocer had a great sale on hams that weren’t already sliced, so I didn’t go with spiral cut this time around. I don’t mind slicing it myself.

Ingredients:

(yields: 8 servings)

  • 4 to 6 pound fully cooked bone-in ham
  • 4 cups apple cider, divided
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 whole orange, quartered
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ¾ cup honey

Instructions:

Step 1: Place ham into a 6 quart or larger Crock-Pot slow cooker.

Step 2: In a liquid measuring cup or small bowl, add 2 cups of the apple cider, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and cloves. Stir to combine. Pour over the ham.

Step 3: Place pieces of orange around sides of the ham.

Step 4: Combine brown sugar and honey in a small saucepan. Heat over low, stirring, until sugar is melted. Pour or brush over the ham.

Step 5: Add additional 2 cups of apple cider to the slow cooker, being careful to not pour over the ham and wash away the honey and brown sugar.

Step 6: Cover and cook on high for 3 hours or on low for 5 to 6 hours.

Step 7: Remove ham from the slow cooker, slice and enjoy.

Wow, this looks really good. I love all 5 of my crock pots! I think they are good to use no matter what time of the year. My Mom is a lover of ham, perhaps I will make this when she visits at Christmas.
