I really enjoy giving and receiving homemade gifts for the holidays. There’s nothing more special than receiving something that has been homemade with love.

Homemade gifts are also a lot easier on the budget. Every Christmas my mom and I bake a lot of Christmas cookies and wrap them up into pretty packages for neighbors, the mail lady, and the many delivery persons that we’ve gotten to know throughout the year. This year we’re going to add a few new things to the mix, and this white chocolate peppermint popcorn is sure to be one of the stars of our goody boxes.

Flavored popcorn is one of my favorite snacks. Just add a little white chocolate and crushed peppermint, for a sweet and crunchy treat that will leave you longing for more. Peppermint just screams Christmas to me and you’ll find it in many of the holiday goodies that we make.

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups prepared popcorn
  • 11 oz bag white chocolate baking chips
  • 3/4 cup finely crushed candy canes

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare popcorn according to package directions. (Microwave popcorn works just fine.)

Step 2: Use a rolling pin or food processor, finely crush candy the canes. I started out with the plastic bag and rolling pin method, but quickly realized it would be much easier in the food processor.

Step 3: Melt white chocolate in the microwave or a double boiler.

Step 4: Place popcorn in a large bowl. Pour melted chocolate over the popcorn, mixing well with a spoon until all is coated.

Step 5: While the chocolate is still warm, stir in the crushed peppermint.

Step 6: Spread popcorn out on a baking sheet and allow to cool completely.

Step 7: Fill a large cellophane bag with the white chocolate peppermint popcorn and tie with a holiday bow and candy cane.

Step 8: Recipe should yield 2 bags of popcorn or you can do like me – give one bag away and eat the rest.

I love popcorn in any flavor. I shall have to rememberr this for the next time I flavor my popcorn. Is the crushed peppermint addedto the white chocolate before you pour it over the popcron or it doesn,t matter as long as the chocolate is still warm?

What a wonderful idea. I am definitely going to try this popcorn recipe this season. It seems simple enough and it is definitely less costly then the moosecrunch popcorns that I usually get this time of year from Harry and David’s.

Popcorn, white chocolate and peppermint are all great flavors. I bet a dark chocolate version would also be good.
