How Do Moms Really Feel About the Back to School Season?

back to school

How do moms really feel about the back to school season? Back to school can be as emotional a time for moms, as it is for kids. Just as we are getting used to our Summer routine and having our children home more, it’s time to begin another school year. No more sleeping in, if you’ve been lucky enough to have that luxury over the summer break. The new school year brings a whole new set of worries for moms. We worry about our children making new friends, and are fearful of them being bullied. The pressure is on for them to make good grades and we can only hope that they will have a good teacher. In some ways the back to school season means relief for moms, as we get back some time for ourselves. Are you secretly celebrating back to school?

Plum District Back to School Infographic

Plum District has put together this insightful infographic, based on the survey results of 2,403 participants. It covers a variety of back to school concerns for moms including:

  • What worries you the most about your kids going to school?
  • How will your kids get lunch on most days?
  • What first day of school tradition will you do this year?
  • What kind of help would you wish for the most when the kids are back in school?
  • Do you plan to tuck a lunch box note into your child’s lunch box on the first day of school?
  • Who is the most sad that school is starting? Could it be the family dog?

What do you think?

I wasn’t surprised to learn the majority of us would like more help with housekeeping, while the kids are back at school. Of course, it’s mom who will be doing most of the crying on the first day.

  • Wow, there is so much to think about! I don’t have to worry quite yet as my daughter is only 16 months but yikes – someday I will! I like the chart for whose the most sad about back to school – 21% the dog – cute!

  • My oldest daughter is going into HIGH SCHOOL this September!!! I’m a little worried mainly about peer pressure kind of stuff. I remember being in high school and the stuff I did. I hope she doesn’t take after me lol.

    • I can totally relate Stacie! I remember all the crazy stuff I did in high school and worried so much that my son would be the same way. Somehow we all survive it though.

  • Neat infographic! This is the first real “Back to school” year for me, since I’m putting my 9 year old into public school for the first time. I’ve homeschooled him up until now and while we’ve had “back to school” each year, it’s not quite the same when he’s home vs getting on the bus. He starts two weeks from today and it will definitely be a big change!

  • Oh I cried when my kids were going back to school. Summer was a family time. We loaded up the van, (even took my parents who are no longer with us). We drove around to parks and the shore line of Lake Michigan. The kids had a blast and really had quality time with Grandma & Grandpa. I miss those days, kids are now grown and have kids of their own.

  • I cried when my daughter went to school, now 30 years later and I’m crying when my grandchildren go to school. I will miss them.
