If you’ve never had Loaded Baked Potato Dip loaded onto a potato chip, know that something this good must be tasted to be believed!

Recently, I was babysitting my client Doug’s young family, but we needed snacks on snacks on snacks for watching Harold and the Purple Crayon … but, already exhausted from dinner, what to do? I needed a quick, five-second snack major.
Just then, Alana says, “Wonna, can we have purple snacks or purple cookies, or purple something with the purple crayon movie?”
Now, moms, you know how difficult it is to find a purple kid-friendly food à la minute after you’ve already cooked all day. Enough, right? I was mom-tired, which is tahhhhrrrrred. So, thinking on the difficulty of this, I, ingeniously (if I might add), suggested, “So you want some purple beets?”
Look of confusion.
“It’s a vegetable,” I add.
And Alana screams, “NO!!!!” “No, ummm, that stuff!”
Josh says, firmly deadpan from the other room where he’s playing Lego Warriors and enjoying clobbering things, “No beets. Beets are, like, not happening. Not on my watch.”
“Fried purple eggplant with horseradish dip?”
Silence.
“Or how about some loaded baked potato chip dip and everything imaginable we can dip in it?”
“Yes, please!”
So, I whipped up some of this loaded baked potato chip dip instead and all the blah-blah about purple snacks was soon forgotten as all of us kids dove in, relishing this loaded baked potato chip dip with all kinds of quickly grabbed dippers and this really immersive, fantastic movie, Harold and the Purple Crayon, which we give a big three thumbs up.
Of all the munchies we tried with this, our favorites were ripple potato chips—delicious, Cheetos—double delicious, and barbecued Fritos, which were, as Josh put it, “most tasty.”

How To Tell That Kids Love This Loaded Baked Potato Dip
In nature, you can tell when an animal likes something by the way it licks its mouth after it tastes something good. Some dogs, for example, can run their tongue around their entire head to catch some remnant of this or that delicious thing. Kids, I learned this weekend, have a “food tell” too, and I think only me and moms in-the-know are privy to this secret knowledge.
Kids’ eyebrows go down instead of up when they really love something. Make this dip and watch that anxious am I going to like this? raised-eyebrow look melt into one of bliss, super-fast.

How To Make Ahead And Store
You can store this dip up to 7 days in the refrigerator, sealed tightly with plastic wrap or stored in an airtight storage container. Cream cheese and sour cream do not freeze well. So eat up!

Serving Suggestions
You don’t have to use just packaged snacks for dippers. Try these Homemade Tortilla Chips, with a salsa and this dip and tell me it’s not amazing, all dipped together on that chip. Man, that’s dee-licious. But what I love most of all dipping into this dip are these super-fast and Easy Buffalo Cauliflower Bites. They taste lip-smacking good dipped in that savory, sour creamy, bacony, cheesy dip. If you love this dip, you might also want to try this amazing Blue Cheese Dip.
