Today I have some totally adorable and easy cupcakes to share with “ewe”.

These simple-to-make sheep cupcakes are the perfect way to celebrate spring or Easter.

I’ve always been one of those people who wished they had major cake decorating skills. I remember a time when my daughter was obsessed with dinosaurs. I thought it would be a sweet gesture to create a little Brontosaurus cupcake topper. I worked hard. I created a perfectly pliable mound of green fondant to shape into whatever I desired. What I hadn’t realized was that I’d left my clay-making skills back in high school. After three dinosaurs, I picked the model that was close enough and threw it on a sprinkled chocolate cupcake. My daughter was only two, so I figured she was none the wiser about how realistic the beast would be. The moment she spotted my Mesozoic mess, she instantly burst into tears.

It was a slight sting to my ego, but I knew Bradley the Brontosaurus looked more like a thumb than a reptile. So now my cake decorating is limited to easier, less technical tasks. I’ll leave the realistic decorations to those on TV whom my daughter and I sit and smugly judge because we just knew that shoe was a cake.

That’s why this cupcake recipe is so amazing. For would-be cake decorators like myself, you don’t have to worry about tail-to-body ratio or if the head is too large. It’s as simple as whipping up your favorite chocolate cupcakes recipe, frosting them with whichever chocolate frosting you have in your pantry, and decorating them with ease and confidence.

These simple-to-make sheep cupcakes are perfect for animal-themed events, and they’re easy enough to have the kids join in the decorating as well! Trust me, you won’t feel sheepish when showing these off to your friends.

The one time we don’t want warm sheep wool

Sheep wool is renowned for its insulating properties; however, for this recipe, remember to let your cupcakes cool before spreading your frosting on. Warm cupcakes are the enemy of frosting. I’ve had impatient moments where I thought my cupcakes were cooled enough, but was left with a messy puddle of frosting, soggy cupcakes, and distressed decorations. I can’t stress this enough when I say LET YOUR CAKE COOL. The recommended time is one hour.

How do I store leftovers?

These cupcakes can be kept in an airtight container on the counter for up to 2 days. For those who plan on keeping these cupcakes for longer, I would advise storing the container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
