NEW Castillo de San Marcos ALIVE! Ghost Experience
Inside the atrium at Gaylord Palms they have recreated Castillo do San Marcos Fort in St. Augustine, FL. Built to protect the city against foreign invasion, this fortress has endured many battles and holds many mysteries. The Castillo de San Marcos is the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States.
During the ghost experience guests wander through the fort where live storytellers recount real-life ghost stories for all who are brave enough to listen.
Explore the fort’s stone walls, and encounter the spirits who remain trapped within. The experience includes an imaginative walkthrough experience transporting visitors of all ages through a world of Halloween Jack-o-Lantern fun. Be prepared to be both intrigued and scared!
We enjoyed the Castillo de San Marcos ALIVE! Ghost Experience a lot. Andy and I are both history buffs and thoroughly enjoyed listing to the storytellers’ accounts of mysterious happenings during the Civil War.

Spookeasy
Adult guests can wrap up the tour with spine-chilling craft cocktails at Spookeasy while admiring the collection of living, ghostly artwork. Andy and I highly recommend the “Here for the Boos” spiked hot chocolate and #SQUASHGOALS smoked old fashioned with pumpkin, pecan chicory bitters and bourbon. Spookeasy is located on the lower level of Castillo de San Marcos Fort.
Also, be sure to chat with the interactive spirits (portrait busts) at the end of your tour. They are hilarious!
Spookley the Square Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt
On Saturday’s at select times, kids of all ages will enjoy Halloween Hide and Seek featuring Spookley the Square Pumpkin. Help Spookley search the atrium to complete the scavenger hunt. Be on the lookout, because you never know where you might spot Spookley himself!
Resort-Wide Trick-or-Treating
Enjoy a Trick or Treat Expedition on Saturday evening. It wouldn’t seem like Halloween without trick-or-treating and Gaylord Palms has that covered. Trick or Treat Expedition Children can dress up in their Halloween costumes and explore the entire resort while trick-or-treating, with stops throughout to get some deliciously spooky treats.
Meet & Greet with Spookley the Square Pumpkin!
Be sure to stop by for a meet and greet photo opportunity with Spookley the Square Pumpkin, located in the main atrium near The Cocoa Bean coffee shop and Wreckers Sports Bar. You kind of can’t miss him!
Phantom of the Atrium Light Display
One of my favorite things during our stay was the nightly Phantom of the Atrium Light Display which happens nightly at 9:00 PM. On Friday night we watched the light show while enjoying a glass of wine out on the Socio outdoor lounge area. It is such a nice spot to chill and relax with a view of the atrium water falls.
Saturday night we watched the show from our room balcony. Our Emerald Bay guestroom had an upgraded atrium view overlooking our lush gardens, and the our view from the 6th floor was amazing.
Spooky Animal Encounters
There are some awesome animal encounters to be had at Gaylord Palms. Conquer your fears with a spooky animal encounter designed to debunk some of the most common myths surrounding some of the world’s most misunderstood animals. Don’t miss the alligator feedings!

Watch Halloween classics on the big screen at the Cypress Springs Water Park.
Bedtime Stories and Monster Mash Bash
Tune in daily on Gaylord TV, channnel 51, from 6:00-10:00 PM for bedtime stories with Morgana and Monster Mash Bash with Vlad the Vampire.
