This homemade peanut butter eggs recipe makes a sweet treat for Easter! They offer the creamy goodness of peanut butter coated in sweet and delicious chocolate.

Homemade Peanut Butter Eggs

I absolutely love Reese’s Eggs but these homemade Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs are so amazing! They are fun to make AND fun to eat!

Peanut butter eggs are a very common treat found around Easter time. They are very similar to the Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups, just a different shape. I prefer to make mine at home because I can use the chocolate and peanut butter brands I prefer most. Plus, they are always a hit with the family!

Homemade peanut butter eggs will be the star of your Easter dessert table.

What makes these sweet eggs so fun is that your kids can help with the making and the decorating. We used sprinkles to give our homemade peanut butter eggs some color. You can also use edible glitter or doodle on them with edible gel pens! Add these to an Easter basket or make a few dozen for your child’s party at school.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • ¼ cup salted butter, room temperature
  • 1 (16 ounce) package powdered sugar
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 (8 ounce) boxes semi-sweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons shortening or coconut oil
  • Sprinkles, if desired
Mixing the Egg Ingredients

Instructions:

Step 1: Beat the peanut butter and butter together until combined. Add the powdered sugar and combine until sandy, scraping down the sides as needed.

Step 2: Slowly beat in the milk a little at a time because the consistency of peanut butter varies greatly. Only add enough milk until the mixture keeps shape when molded.

Shaping the peanut butter eggs

Step 3: Shape into eggs by pressing into a cookie cutter or by hand. Place on waxed paper and freeze for 2 hours.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Eggs

Step 4: Chop the chocolate pieces or use chocolate chips.

Step 5: Place chocolate and shortening or coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 30 seconds. Stir vigorously to allow the residual heat to continue melting the chocolate. If the chocolate is not completely melted, repeat for 30 seconds.

Sprinkles on the Eggs

Step 6: Spoon the melted chocolate over the peanut butter eggs and place on waxed paper. Immediately drop sprinkles over the chocolate if desired.

Step 7: Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
