I love this time of the year, when the market is filled with fresh salad greens and fixins. Bottled salad dressings are loaded with preservatives, so I prefer to use a homemade salad dressing.

Zesty Homemade House Dressing Recipe

Making your own salad dressing takes just minutes and can be made with few ingredients, yet still be flavorful and delicious.

This zesty homemade house dressing is one of my faves. I call it a house dressing because I make it so frequently. Plus, it’s just a basic creamy dressing with a bit of zip.

Zesty Homemade House Dressing Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup cottage cheese
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 scallion (green onion), chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chopped sun-dried tomato

Instructions:

Step 1: Place all of the ingredients in a blender. Pulse until smooth. Transfer to a small bowl, cover, and chill until ready to use. Recipe yields about 2 cups of salad dressing.

Step 2: This salad dressing is zesty, but not overpowering. If you want to tone it down a bit, you can omit the garlic or sun-dried tomato or both.

We go threw a lot of salad dressing. I love to eat salads and the kids use it for dip. I will have to try making this recipe.

The only dressing I’ve tried making was when you mixed the oil with the vinegar, water and seasoning packet. This dressing sounds yummy and amazing!

We only use homemade dressings, and while living in China have a penchant for an easy Italian one. I cannot wait to try this at home (in the States) this summer! Great idea using cottage cheese – I imagine it’s a way to lighten it up? Thanks for linking up at #FoodieFriDIY!
